Skiing + Skating

“Relax, you’re too stiff. Just relax, and feel it.”

“You will know when you are calm, at peace.”

Wise words from Yoda, or an instructor wearing a Viking helmet? Sage advice referencing the power of the Force, or not-dying during dives down mountainsides? YOU decide after these messages!

As a poor, raggedy kid from the blazing heat of Malaysia, I most certainly am not trained nor educated in the arts of winter. And yet, in spite of:

  • Many hours of freezing weather
  • Many falls (literally butthurt)
  • Many struggles
  • Many embarrassments
  • Much flailing
  • Those darn kids – DON’T YOU DARE LOOK AT ME, HOW ‘BOUT I STICK YOU IN KL HUH? HUH??

I can say that I’ve finally achieved an acceptable level of skill wherein I can manage to not fall and not die, while skiing or skating. I’ve gotten the hang of it!

Of the two, I prefer skiing. Adrenaline junkies would love the sensation of speeding down a mountainside. Am I an adrenaline junkie? Likely. That’s not to say I wouldn’t take a lady out ice skating. Am I a romantic? Likely, too.

Romantic adrenaline junkie?
